Positon: Youth Development Instructor

Position Summary

Responsible for implementing recreational programs for youth ages 5-14.

Position Title: Youth Worker

  • Ensures that a balanced program is available to all members emphasizing interdisciplinary planning and coordinating with other program areas.
  • Prepares daily, weekly, and monthly program plans.
  • Facilitates special interest activities as needed. ( i.e. chess, design, dance, hair braiding
    etc.)
  • Support coordination of holiday and other special events of the organization.
  • Provides bulletin boards, posters, and/or flyers for activity announcements and
    promotions as well as to show case exceptional behavior or talent of our members.
  • Keeps space and equipment/supplies clean and in good working condition.
  • Chaperones and supports field trips.
  • Support organization’s administrative duties (i.e. attendance entry, inventory, etc)
  • Provides necessary reports to the Youth Program Coordinator as needed.
Qualifications:

Education: High School diploma required. College credits preferred.
Experience: Experience working with youth ages 5-14 in a recreational or educational environment.
Skills & Qualities: Good communication, conflict resolution, creative and innovative activity planning, confident, energetic, critical thinking, and organized, as well as positive & patient guidance and discipline techniques.
Expertise in any of the following areas: Physical Education, Computer Education, Art, Drama, Music or Dance is a plus. Knowledgeable and capable in assisting youth with
their homework and engaging through fun, empowering, and educational activities

Responsibilities
  • Deliver age-appropriate programs and activities to C4S members.
  • Encourage youth to participate in programs and activities.
  • Build positive relationships with youth & their parents.
  • Maintain a safe and respectful environment
  • Ensure the proper use of equipment in program areas
  • Report and record any incidents that occur with members.
Performance Expectations
  • To engage with members at all times in order to understand their needs and assets as well as develop relationships to progress youth development.
  • Educational activities should be hands on, engaging, leaving room for questions, exploration, and dialogue.
  • Conflict resolution and guidance & discipline actions should be encouraging and purposeful.
  • Members should walk away with clear expectations and empowerment to improve behavior, never shame or defeat.

Environmental and Working Conditions: A youth development and community outreach environment similar to a typical classroom
setting.

Physical Requirements: Physical requirements related to light lifting, bending, reaching, stretching, walking, running, and standing for long periods of time.
